Maid of the Mist Boat Ride

"Standing at the base of Horseshoe Falls is something words cannot describe. The Maid of the Mist gets you right into the spray. Bring a waterproof phone case. Worth every penny."

Hornblower Niagara City Cruises

"We did Hornblower on the Canadian side. Easier to reach from our hotel on Clifton Hill. The boat goes right under Horseshoe Falls. Loud, wet, unforgettable."

Whirlpool Jet Boat Wet Jet

"The Whirlpool Jet Boat is pure adrenaline. We took the wet jet and got drenched in the gorge. Different experience than Maid of the Mist, more thrill ride, less iconic photo. Loved both."

Four main boat tour operations run at Niagara Falls. From the US side: Maid of the Mist, leaving Prospect Point in Niagara Falls NY since 1846. From the Canadian side: Hornblower Niagara Cruises (also branded Niagara City Cruises), leaving Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls ON. Plus the Whirlpool Jet Boat, a whitewater thrill ride through the Niagara Gorge from Lewiston NY or Niagara-on-the-Lake, and dinner cruises from Niagara-on-the-Lake on the Lady of the Lake.

Maid of the Mist (US side) costs about $32 USD per adult, $19 per child 6-12, free under 6. Hornblower Niagara City Cruises (CAN side) costs about CAD $36 per adult. Whirlpool Jet Boat is around $79 USD for the wet jet, $84 for the dry jet. Helicopter plus boat combo packages start at $189 and go up to $350. Dinner cruises start at $109 per person.

Yes. Maid of the Mist, Hornblower and dinner cruises stay on enclosed boats. You will not enter the water. A reusable poncho is provided to protect you from the spray, but you remain on deck the whole time. The Whirlpool Jet Boat does cross rapids, but a life jacket is mandatory and the boat is designed for whitewater. No swimming required for any of these tours.

Maid of the Mist runs late April through late October. Hornblower Niagara Cruises runs early April through late November. Whirlpool Jet Boat operates May through October. Dinner cruises run May through October. None operate in winter when the river freezes. Best time of day is early morning (first sailing, usually 9 AM) for fewer crowds, or sunset for the best light. Weekday sailings are noticeably less busy than weekends.

Bring a swimsuit, towel, waterproof phone case, and water shoes (the trail has some rocky sections). Sunscreen must be biodegradable to protect the attraction's ecosystem. A change of clothes is recommended for after the swim.

Maid of the Mist pairs well with Cave of the Winds (both on the US side). Hornblower pairs well with Journey Behind the Falls and the Skylon Tower (both on the CAN side). Most travelers combining sides do Hornblower in the morning, cross the Rainbow Bridge, and finish with Cave of the Winds. Helicopter rides add roughly 9 minutes of aerial views and are sold as a combo with Hornblower.

We recommend booking at least 24-48 hours in advance, especially during high season (December-March) when tours sell out quickly. Early morning slots are the first to go. Instant confirmation on all bookings.

Yes. Most tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure are non-refundable. Check the specific tour for details.
